Fragile Beauty March 20, 2009

a poem about the lovely blooms that appear in my yard every summer…

Fragile Beauty

I pause to cast eyes on beauty

suspended elegantly from fragile stems

curved in periwinkle pirouettes.

Soothing, graceful lines

curtsy to my audience of one –

grateful for my daily adoration.

Final performance draws near

when delicate blooms

make way for autumn’s

less dignified flora –

bold, hardy, and raucous-

harbingers of wind, cold and discord;

but I suspect

that my tiny blue ballerinas know

these words will immortalize their charms,

like an epitaph

to summer.
